Ko Patangata te Maunga
Ko Nukutaharua te Awa
Ko Te Whanau a Tuwhakairiora te hapu
Ko Ngati Porou te Iwi

Favourite ancestor: Tuwhakairiora.

Favourite whakatauki/proverb? Whaia te iti kahurangi – pursue excellence.

What is your favourite seafood? Kina.

Best day out fishing? My favourite fishing experience was the first time my dad took me fishing at the Wairoa bar when the kahawai were running. I think it was my first taste of very successful fishing.

Hobbies? I love playing sports, fishing, diving, hunting and cycling with my wife and our three daughters.

What is your role in the company? Managing, protecting and optimally utilising Ngati Porou’s seafood resources. This includes reporting and submitting on fisheries and resource management issues, sustainability decisions and rights protection.

What previous experiences most help you in your work here? My marine science and statistics background enables me to effectively analyse fisheries and resource management issues and deal with them in a manner that we believe is the most appropriate.

What do you love about working here? I like that Ngati Porou Seafoods Limited is a dynamic business that’s continually trying to innovate and improve and puts effort into personal development. Working in the environment is rewarding but what really makes it special is that our mahi is contributing to the current and future prosperity of our tribe socially and economically.

How does Ngati Porou Seafoods Group benefit the people of Ngati Porou? Not only does NPSG provide Ngati Porou with income through annual dividends but we are influential on forums that deal with the sustainability of our seafood resources. We are not going anywhere and it is essential that we think with this long-term mind set. This means that we are sustainably managing our seafood resources so that future Ngati Porou generations can access these for commercial, recreational and customary purposes.

What do you hope to help NPSG achieve in years to come? Growth and success.
